How is this "intelligible or coherent" I don't think it is either one.

Intelligible: capable of being understood; comprehensible; clear
Coherent: having a natural or due agreement of parts; harmonious

I chose those words deliberately. All that pair of words means is that I understood what he was saying and that the bits of it were not at odds with each other. I was able to follow and to comprehend. I have no doubt that you, too, can process English and comprehend simple notions like making observations, evaluating events, and preferring X to Y. You can't tell me otherwise.

Acknowledging comprehension of someone's position is not the same as endorsing it. The only thing I supported was his self-awareness and consideration in making his determination. Your response, OTOH, was to argue against his position, against his inputs and his judgment. Have at it, if you like, but with him, not me. I am not his apologist.

Having said that, I will respond briefly to your reaction. People that I know who entertain support for Trump fall into either or both of two camps. Primarily, they are more afraid of the D's left flank than of Trump. I heartily disagree with that call, a matter of frying pan vs fire. I subscribe to the notion expressed by R never-Trumpers that you deal with the alligator closest to the boat and worry about the "socialist" alligator later. But they judge that the socialists are the fire and Trump is at worst the frying pan.

The other camp is low information voters. They are still fighting the last war because they haven't seen Trump at the level that we have. They think this election is the same old red vs blue . For example, the other day I made a crack while among some neighbors, with whom I have never talked politics, about "person, man, woman, camera, TV." I don't recall the context but the phrase somehow just popped out. To blank stares, so I had to explain. None of them was familiar with the matter and they all looked bemused, uninterested, and ready to get back to whatever it was we were discussing. So I quickly dusted myself off and moved on. My neighbors are educated, successful people. Who vote.
