My 4th Great Grandfather taught school in Amenia Township Dutchess Co back in the 1760s. We visited the area in '17. Gorgeous!

Dutchess County is bisected north and south by the Taconic State Parkway...............east of the Taconic toward the Connecticut border is much more rural and open with a lot of horse and dairy farms..........very much like New England away from the cities..............west of the Taconic toward the Hudson River is much more urban and suburban................so something for everyone.....but certainly no wilderness.........what certainly is happening is a large influx of liberal types from the city and Westchester County who lay down big bucks for a few acres and then build a very upscale home.............even before their home is completed, they then will join an organization to limit any further development.
