Actual P/E would decrease because of the negative earnings after one-time charges.

You got that bass ackwards.

Old P/E @ 18 with 3.17 eps = 5.68
New P/E @ 18 with 0.84 eps = 21.43

5 Yr P/E range is 4 to 28

After next qtr, unless WDC earns more then .04(Ha!), the 12 month earnings will be negative and there will be no PE.

If you are buying this stock on its "stated" PE, the PE that quote services provided, you are making a HUGE , HUGE error. THis takes into consideration the past few qtrs. and does not even come close to mirroring current conditions.

Forget the PE. its only value is possibly to indicate that if everything returned to normal, and the stock stayed at its current price, what its PE could be.

steve
