Did anyone catch the full page ad in USA Today? On A13, a full page ad with the guy holding Zip disk in one hand and the equivalant in floppies in the other. With the quote to the left " One Zip equals 76 (I think) floppies." The back ground had the condor plane's tale open.

In the bottom of the page it talked about the Dell Dimension line and how you should add a Zip-built in to the system.

A good strategy, going after all those Dell consumers, and splitting the cost of the ad with Dell, I think.

RE: A buy recommendation for Syquest

Favorable long-term prospects for Syquests are far from being guaranteed. In fact, the numbers suggest that they are slim to none. However, Syquest has delivered some new products that have been well received by the press (namely Syjet and Sparq). Syquest could benefit from what IOM has in the past enjoyed and AOL is currently enjoying...considerable speculation on significant future earnings. Any noticable increase in revenues, inventory backlogs, OEM deals, etc. that suggests these products are well received by the market and speculation could rise and momentum grow. Momentum is what institutional investors look for in a growth stock. So Syquest may not be a bad momentum play. But as we have learned momentum can payoff nicely or painfully. This is my only reason why I think AOL is going to get creamed sometime this year. It is a total momentum play based on extremely high expectations. Expectations that I do not believe can be met.

I think the reason why IOM has been supported so well at the $8 level, is it's becoming a value play. Given historical and projected growth and potential upside surprise, a trailing PE of less than 20 is reasonable given the present market. I am not sure if we will see significant stock movement like we have seen in the past. But, I do believe that product shipments and meet or beat earnings will give the stock a nice boost.

Later,

John
