If one is an originalist, then doesn't that conflict with amendments, which make it a living document!?

They would say that slavery was outlawed by the post Civil War amendments, most explicitly by the 13th amendment. But some folks point out that some forms of slavery persisted even afterward in the Jim Crow south. And even today in the prison system.
