There was a time when a man said he'd increase spending, cut taxes, and balance the budget. The first two were super easy. He won a lot of states. But, he never got around to doing the last part of the equation and republicans learned a valuable lesson. Say what people want to hear to get elected and then do whatever you want. So began the long journey from less than $1 trillion of debt to over $27 trillion in 39 years.
