This is interesting: The institutions that owned ASND
circa 9/30/97 (and a few on later dates). I find it
significant that TIAA/CREF is a large holder. These people
have done wonders for Prof. Korn's (my wife's) college
retirement account. They are conservative, yet make some
well reasoned plays:

GRIC Communications Demonstrating GRICdial Internet Phone Book and Dialer at E-
Commerce Summit

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 1998--GRIC Communications (formerly
AimQuest Corporation) will be demonstrating its GRICdial Internet phone book
and dialer at the E-Commerce Summit January 30, from noon to 4:00 at table No.
74.

GRICdial lets travelers quickly locate the nearest Internet access point
virtually anywhere in the world. A simple mouse click handles the
configuration settings and dials a local access number, thus saving a long
distance call back to the home access provider. The GRIC network includes 250
major ISPs and telcos worldwide. Available for Windows 95, GRICdial for the
Macintosh debuts in February.

The E-Commerce Summit is part of the Internet Showcase, a by-invitation-only
executive conference where the technology elite meet to get a hands-on look at
a select group of the hottest Internet and intranet products and technologies.
Each product is hand selected by David Coursey, the newsletter editor Marketing
Computers magazine has ranked as the industry's "most influential" in 1996 and
1997.

"More than 300 products or technologies went through the selection process -
and about that many were considered but didn't make it all the way through the
process," explained executive producer David Coursey. "GRICdial is one of
fewer than 100 products of the serious contenders that made the final cut."

GRIC Communications is a rapidly growing clearinghouse for Internet
telecommunications services, providing routing, authentication, network
management, billing and settlement services to ISPs and telcos worldwide. This
enables global Internet roaming, corporate remote access/VPN, fax, and
telephony.

GRIC-member ISPs and telcos have a combined subscriber base of more than 13
million dial-up users and 20 million corporate users, making the GRIC alliance

the largest network of Internet-based telecommunications services in the
world. Members include SPRYNET/CompuServe, NETCOM, Prodigy, Singapore Telecom,
NEC, Fujitsu, KDD, Malaysia Telecom, Telecom Finland, Korea PC Telecom,
FranceNet, Cybernet AG, Hong Kong Telecom, Samsung, and Hyundai. GRIC's
technology partners include Ascend, Bay Networks, Cisco, DEC, Lucent,
Microsoft, Oracle, and Siemens.

Founded in 1994 and privately held, GRIC Communications has offices in
California, Asia and Europe. For additional information, please contact GRIC
Communications at 1381 McCarthy Blvd., Milpitas, CA, 95035. Phone: 408/955-

Tim,

Your message made me laugh. Thanks....I needed that this morning.

As for ASND/CSCO/LU... I think that one does get a bit into antitrust issues but who knows. I simply think that ASND and CSCO have too many overlapping products for a CSCO aqusition to make sense. Cisco is already top heavy on the ATM switches and is making great strides in the RAS market. I'm not sure that buying ASND to become #1 in RAS makes sense.

Now there was a comment on the thread that CSCO could by ASND as a defensive mechanism to keep LU from making the purchase - THAT was interesting and is probably worth another look.

Gary

BTW: Glad I could take the heat off you.... it was not my intention. ASND Bulls however are tenacious - even more than us CSCO bulls!
