Yeah, NZ is letting in only citizens and residents. But the only airline that flies from Santiago (where we are) to NZ is LATAM, and they have cancelled all commercial flights for the rest of the year. We were prepared to stay here until Jan 2, when we have our return booked (it was originally booked for August 29, but that was cancelled), but we've got word that there will be no flights before the end of next March. I guess LATAM will not fly until the border is open, and nobody knows when that will be. After some indecision, we have bitten the bullet and paid through the nose to join a charter flight leaving next Monday - at 3 am. This has been organised for the benefit of returning NZers and Aussies from various parts of S. America. It sounds like a bare-bones operation - we are advised to take snacks, blanket, pillow.
