I've never found it useful to be regretful over missed opportunities...

My bank account may be, in those instances, but I am not...

And, while overlooking bitcoin, at the start did mean missing a move from sub-penny to... where is it now ? That is likely the biggest % mover of them... but, have had the same thing happen on other occasions, missing out on moves of the type, from $0.0001 to $100... where $1,000, IF committed and then left alone, becomes $1,000,000,000.

Much of that is the same "shoulda, coulda, woulda" issue... as exists in every trade. As you note, missing bitcoin from sub-penny... still doesn't excuse missing it from $1 ? Or, $10 ? Or, buying it sub-penny... and then riding it only to $10 ? One of the funny bits I've loved hearing from Clif High... is his experience using his bitcoin profits in the first year... to buy socks. Very expensive socks.

Buy a stock for $0.0001 and ride it to $0.25... and that's still one heck of a trade... but $2.5 million is still just a bit shy of that $1 billlion.... by around 400 times ? Three parts of that are hard. One is finding trades that have that potential... which, IF you work at it deliberately enough, is still likely to happen only once or twice in a decade. The second is... convincing yourself to pull the trigger... which I've come close to more than once without doing it... The third, as mentioned, is having the patience to ride "a trade" to the limit its capable of delivering... only, that bit ignoring all those finds I did buy and hold... that have finally succeeded in making it to $0.0001 now ?

More of that sort of potential comes paired, as you'd expect, with dramatic change occurring... as both elements in the duality of risk and opportunity are expanded in tandem as changes occur ? I was in Hong Kong... back in 1991... meeting with stock brokers... but the "rules" prevented my participation ? How many similar potentials were missed, just because of that ? I don't know...

But, buying bitcoin, now... doesn't come with any a guarantee that it won't be $0.0001... in a few years ?

I think blockchain technologies have other utility... a lot of opportunity that isn't being addressed very well... mostly because "making your own money out of thin air"... has a different kind of appeal ? I suspect its "been fun".... but the beta test is close to being wrapped up... and once the central banks decide to start issuing digital currencies of their own... suddenly bitcoin will look a whole lot like counterfeiting, again... and then its advocates will sudden realize the things they found attractive as "secrecy, security"... aren't that.

On the personal side... I'm not conflicted... or shy. An extroverted introvert, perhaps... but social enough. Out to dinner by myself at a local bistro before my own road trip in August... I met a very nice young lady... traveling, and out to dinner by herself... half my age, very attractive, and very personable... and more than capable of keeping up her end in a conversation... which I find more rare. Unimpressed with her wine selection... invited her to my table, to share the bottle I'd brought with me. We had a great evening...

But, I'm not in a hurry to make big changes... More focused on catching up in other areas, for now, now that I can.... and as I make progress on those other things... will find time to allow the rest to evolve more naturally.

Lots of interesting changes in the world... make it a very different place now than when I was young... staying engaged all the time helps you keep up with change as it occurs. Covid is imposing lots of change... much of which is not good...and that is certainly true in terms of change limiting opportunities for social interaction... But, some of that change is only revealing what does work in Covid context better than what doesn't. I expect a lot of that impact will "stick" when the virus risks are gone, only because what does work well, even now... will still work well, later, too...

But, sharing food and wine, or fun with friends, hanging out around a fire on the beach... just isn't something you can duplicate digitally ?
