Rupert Resources (RUP-V) drilled a 181-metre interval averaging 3.6 grams of gold per tonne in the Ikkari zone of its Pahtavaara project in Finland. There were several other noteworthy hits in the latest batch of results, including a 188-metre interval that averaged three grams per tonne and a 106.7-metre interval that managed 4.4 grams per tonne.

The good grades across lengthy intervals were not unexpected, as the company had been receiving comparable results earlier this year, although the higher grades are arriving with a greater frequency. Three weeks ago, Rupert hit a 167-metre zone averaging 4.2 grams per tonne. In mid-September, it encountered three grams per tonne over 171.2 metres. Indeed, the company's first hit at Ikkari, which came in mid-May, produced enough gold -- 1.8 grams per tonne over 137 metres -- to pry the company's stock free of its then 75-cent shackle.

Mr. Withall, chief executive officer, cheered the "exceptional new results" from Ikkari as showing a further increase in the grade and thickness of mineralization across a strike length of 550 metres. He said that the drilling has filled the gap between western and eastern areas, as well as having extended the known depth to 265 metres, 50 deeper than before. Assays are pending for 18 holes already completed and more will follow, as the drilling continues.

Mr. Withall and his crew are "targeting multimillion-ounce gold discoveries" at Pahtavaara to feed Rupert's mill in northern Finland. Still, for all his talk of big ounce counts and high grades, Rupert still does not have a resource estimate for the project despite having acquired Pahtavaara four years ago. The mill, rated at 500 tonnes per day, supported an old mine at Pahtavaara, one that produced 350,000 ounces of gold during its run. Mr. Withall's challenge now will be to build a new resource to get the mill operating again.
