Van Sun says VSE review includes market activity

GMD Resource Corp GMDShares issued 141375671998-01-22 close $1.93Friday Jan 30 1998Also LMX Resources Ltd (LMX) The Vancouver Sun reports in its Friday edition that Vancouver Stock Exchange officials have halted trading in GMD Resource after learning the company made $3 million in non-arm's length, undisclosed and unsecured loans. Reporter David Baines says the regulatory intervention throws into question the future of GMD president Don Farrell, a well-known and controversial Howe Street promoter. At the exchange's request, Mr Farrell reported that GMD, which is exploring for diamonds in the Northwest Territories, had loaned $2.1 million to VSE-listed LMX Resources by December 31. Mr Farrell serves as president of both companies. GMD also loaned $919,000 to Farrell Financial, which reloaned $300,000 to LMX. VSE surveillance director Angela Huxham says it is too early to say when trading in GMD and LMX will resume. She says the VSE is conducting a review of both companies, which will include market activity. (c) Copyright 1997 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
