Thought I might post this since I posted a few days ago about Bass Plc, parent company of Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn. Seems Bass is rumored to be interested in acquiring Inter-Continental Hotels. biz.yahoo.com "Bass has made it clear it wants to expand its upmarket 125-strong Crowne Plaza hotel brand into mainland Europe and Asia-Pacific. The group has also said the recent collapse of financial markets in the Far East may present opportunities. The Inter-Continental chain has a total 212 hotels in 76 countries, of which 133 operate under the luxury Inter Continental brand and 27 trade as mid market Forum hotels. About 52 are independent hotels, which use the Inter-Continental reservation system." The value of a patent in any field can never be estimated till it is used in various applications. Then patent can be borrowed for a royalty or can sold by the company. Also patents are copied all over the world and enough modifications are made to make it look different than the original. As long as it cannot be traced completely back to the original patent it is usually fine with the system. People do not re-invent the wheel each time. In the food arena there is no patent existing for the use of Ozone for Cyclopss. However there are existing patents in the laudry sector for the process itself. This technology is available at a lot of Universities across the nation where research has been performed.
