stsimon,

So the ongoing saga of the stimulus continues. I expect the following outcome:

McConnell promises a vote after the election on a bill passed by the House if the House reaches an agreement with the current administration. Chump loses and the Dems also get a majority in the Senate. In the lame duck session McConnell brings up the bill for a vote and the Republicans reject it saying that it is time for fiscal responsibility. Nothing happens until the new administration comes in and then a bill gets passed and implemented.

I have been seeing more stories that have talked about the Republicans not passing a stimulus bill now because by doing so, it would undercut their argument for fiscal responsibility next year if Biden wins. But if voters are paying attention, this kind of stunt might push those hurt fiscally by the coronavirus to vote for the Democrats. Not just for President but also for the Senate. Which may mean that McConnell, who no doubt is counting on the Republicans keeping the Senate, may find himself in the minority. There might be a price to pay for the game he is playing.
