Chris,

RE:Would it not be wise to get out now and jump into a stronger short term position?

I say fortitude is what "suffering" longs should exhibit. What would you buy if you sold your Cymer? If you've got stocks that you know are going to move in the short-term, please share the picks. Selling this company after a 70% drop is absolutely insane IMHO.

Bob

C.R.: I think that a lot of us wish that CYMI would have gone up rather than down. However, dumping now could be a mistake, for several reasons. First, when CYMI comes back into vogue, it could do so with a bang... remember in 1996 when AMAT and KLAC took off like a shot after be in the dumps for months? The stocks climbed something like $8/share in the course of a couple of hours. Secondly, where are you going to put your money where it can work for you more effectively for 3 to 6 months?? The only thing there I _might_ suggest is a move to super high quality stocks like MSFT, INTC, CSCO, CPQ, and maybe DELL... stocks which, in my opinion, every tech investor should seriously think about owning. (Actually, I do own them, in my long term IRA portfolio.) If CYMI is your only stock, you might consider diversifying a bit... otherwise, I would--and have--been gradually buying more at these lower levels. Hope this helps!--John

You can sell covered call option against the CYMI stocks you own.
If CYMI flies, you just keep on rolling the strike price up.

The implied volitility of CYMI's option is good.

C.R. many here also put all eggs in one basket that is
down. Any spread across technology sub-categories has lost
pretty big since August. Networkers, Semis, Semi-equips, Disk Drives,
etc. What to do? Probably try to stick with same strategy. Why?
Because every sector/strategy has its ups and downs, if you exit at
the low and switch you risk a magnified loss. Myself, I've got
now a concentrated collection of battered stocks I will pay off margin
and forget for a while. I do have a hefty 1998 loss which I can rack
up short-term winnings on, so I'll try to raise cash for when after I'm clear of IRS '97 commitments and look again for some trades.

You might begin covered calls after 25 has been broken to the upside again. If that happens in 6 months or this month try to arrange your life so it doesn't matter.
