Enlightened self-interest. So I have posted that typically I consider myself a social lib but Fiscal Con,, hate government waste.. but taxes well spent I have no issue with.. I believe in a hand up.. I have three pillars which disqualify me typically as a conservative to many which have huge fiscal ramifications LOL IOW.. three primary areas which taxes should be targeted at.. Universal healthcare quality public ed.. ( I have a bit longer description of exactly what that means to me).. more teachers... homework done (completed) at school supervised by TA's like we get in university.. so no kid needs count on parents' abilities to assist.. if parents are keeners.. so much the better for them but the playing field is leveled.. (Equality of opportunity) NOT Outcomes.. I have more ideas on education.. but my plan would eliminate many daycare requirements also,. I would BOOST phys ed.. basic skills like swimming should be universal.. and the list goes on.. UBI.. we are gonna need it.. and it also assists equality of opportunity These things require many checks and balances to not be co-opted or scammed.. but that is no reason to not do them.. As I have posted along with this many times this is not so called bleeding heart liberalism.. nor even altruism... I am not a handout fan.. that for example destroys the First Nations here ... Reality is our forefathers stole their lands and worse.. but that is the story of humankind over our history... That was then this is now.. you need live in the now.. and join the program... This is better for all of us as a society/civilisation.. IMO... Yet it is tiresome to see folks of privilege ascend to power not on merit but on connections... and yet be incompetent for the job.. at times the most important jobs :( Jobs that control in part my future ! Your future ! While folks of merit for reasons beyond their control who may be far better to lead do not get the OPPORTUNITY... So yes.. Enlightened self-interest. that's pretty much my take... and what being a humanist should be.. I just find that far too many self proclaimed humanists are no different than self proclaimed Christians or followers of the religion of peace.. lots of copping out :) So yep I agree with you it appears :)
