AMD Investors - When is an AMD Strategic Partner Not So Strategic? Check out CyberSmash - AMD's STRATEGIC PARTNER - AMD just stiffed them because they are selling their notebook6 (That's Notebook K6) chips to Compaq and IBM -. Either Compaq and IBM are ordering one helluva lot of chips or AMD is still struggling with 0.25 micron yields. Maybe that Kumar's estimate of 1% yields isn't too far off the mark! Notebook Release Delay ALLENTOWN, Pa., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- CyberMax Computer, Inc., a direct vendor of award winning, high quality personal computers, today announced a delay in the launch of their new line of notebook computers. CyberMax, a strategic partner of Advanced Micro Devices, had previously planned to announce the new line, which will be based on the AMD K6 mobile processor, sometime this month. This announcement has been temporarily postponed due to repeated changes in AMD's shipping schedule. AMD has informed CyberMax that because of contracts recently signed with Compaq and IBM we would not be getting .25 micron mobile CPU's until the second quarter of this year. All of their production yields will be needed to satisfy the contracts with both of those companies. As the third largest AMD integrator CyberMax will receive CPU's as soon as AMD has satisfied their commitments to both Compaq and IBM. ''Unfortunately we submitted advertisements containing our new K6 powered notebooks based on AMD's proposed delivery schedule, '' said Tony Renaldi, CyberMax Public Relations Director. ''We were very excited about the project, having won numerous awards with K6 based desktops we fully expected to generate a tremendous buzz in the industry with these notebooks.'' ''Being an alternative CPU system vendor has its advantages as well as its disadvantages, this is one of the disadvantages,'' said Paul Beck, CyberMax Marketing Director.
