1%-2% of those infected naturally to reach natural herd immunity will possibly die. I think infection fatality is quite a bit lower than that, more in the ballpark of 0.2 - 0.4%. And, a large majority of those fatalities are old and/or sick. Once the spike protein is neutralized by the antibody, the virus is no longer able to connect to the receptors and to invade cells.
