(Off Topic) Asia --- here are some things that may catch their attention

There are riots in Indonesia and the military overreacts and/or the Chinese minority comes under ethnic attack (guaranteed to make the NY TImes).

Japan's Mitsubishi (?) Bank goes belly up because of overexposure in Indonesia.

China devalues followed by Hong Kong, or vice versa.

There is broader currency depreciation in South America.

Russia cannot collect enough taxes to pay its workers and is forced to use its IMF loans money (currently being used for government operations) to pay back interest on its ever growing burden of loans. (they raised interest rates again to protect the ruble) It goes broke and Yeltsin is forced out.

Banks decide not to go along with the voluntary South Korea rollover terms.

First quarter earnings catch everyone by surprise.

And much later--- it dawns upon everyone that the IMF austerity program hasn't pull developing economies out of their financial problems (just look at Russia) but puts them more permanently into negative growth and political instability.

When gas prices in the US fall because of a lack of Asian demand, you know the impact is going to happen.

Clinton gets nailed.

The war planned in Iraq gets out of control.
