When I started rebuilding my house in 2007 I started researching about solar but could find no contractors that made it worthwhile for the cost, and only a 10yr warranty on the system. I did add spray foam insulation to all exterior walls and went with tankless water heaters. I remember thinking at the time it would have been a great govt initiative to require and part subsidize all homes destroyed by hurricane katrina to be rebuilt with solar, there were so many.
