There are major breakthroughs in the hydrogen domain using non-platinum catalysts. I wouldn't rule it out just because of how it is made today.

You should look at his thread; it's already happening. I wasn't big on H2, cuz it's not very efficient, but it is a good way to store a lot of energy.
