My response to Paul Fiesta on his article posted on CNET:

>>Paul,

I think your story was unfair and poorly researched.

news.com

You failed to address this question:

Do you think it's even possible to manufacture removable disk drives without
a certain percentage of them being defective?

You also failed to consider that only those people who have defective drives
have an incentive to post their gripes. Do you think that all of the
satisfied Iomega Zip drive customers post their satisfaction? I don't
think so.

If the defect rate on Iomega Zip drives was above and beyond normal defect
rates, then your article would have strong merit. As it stands, you don't
provide any evidence either way, save anecdotal evidence, which is
inherently unreliable, as I explain above.

What would you consider a normal defect rate?

In the interest of fairness, I think you should post a follow up story,
addressing the above questions and concerns.

Sincerely,

Philip J. Davis<<
