We have some friends who did basically the opposite. The guy was re-locating for a new job again, climbing a ladder.

I explained the housing bubble, but they wanted to move back to the Northeast and didn't believe it.

They sold their house in the Northeast a year later at a big loss and then relocated to a more affordable market. Fortunately, his company took the house loss as part of the relocation package. Later on, they moved once again to an even more affordable market, as they didn't have much to show for all that job hopping.
