Ken...The "ovious" is not so obvious. I had already called Fidelity Investments at 1-800-543-2158, gave them my account number (I am a Fidelity customer), and asked if the following information was still accurate:

FIDELITY MANAGEMENT & RESEARCH 1,125,615 shares as of 09/30/1997

I was told by the Fidelity representative that he could not give out this information, because it was policy not to divulge their investment strategy!! I know, however, that this information would be available in their individual mutual fund reports, if you happened to own one of the funds that these shares were in. Anyway, I struck out here.

I am still puzzled at some of the trading after all the bad news. Example, today about 2:30 PM, there were 35000 shares bought in a 5 minute period of time.
