Mr. Trump was elected and thought fixing things would be no different than simply fcuking over contractors.. which is a one of his modus operandis... China in this case.. oooops..

The integration between the two countries is very tight with a great number of companies (and families) spread on both sides of the border. They will lobby for and see to it that any politician that poses a serious threat to the free trade will not be re-elected.

As for Canada, I think that Canada is overly dependent on the US and if the idiot in charge had half the balls of his dad and just average amount of intelligence, he would have used the current opportunity to forge closer ties with China than to alienate them...but that is another discussion.
