I've already shared my two cents worth, as an MIS professor, about the Y2K problem. I'd like to share another perspective. Today my university was hosting an MIS faculty candidate. After he gave his research presentation (it was about organizational memory) he was asked about his current job - he is managing the Y2K project for a major California utility company.

He described what his company is going through in terms of traditional Y2K items such as COBOL programs as well as the stuff
that isn't spoken of as often - embedded systems. In particular, his company has uncovered a slew of systems that will fail and
pose electricity problems for the population if this stuff isn't fixed. He further indicated that, before Y2K, the company
thought its code inventory was ~20 million lines. After analyzing the code for Y2K they found that the company has ~100 million
lines.

Bottom line for the electrical power industry - Y2K is not to be taken lightly.

The daytraders getting their 1/8 and 1/4 kicks. and MMs walking it down on low volume, probably looking to take out newly placed stops and cover some before the next news.

Some news should hit today, if only announcement of name change. [It did pass, I assume.]
