NEW YORK, Jan 29 (Reuters) - MCI Communications Corp said
it expects 1998 capital spending to be about $3.0 billion, down
from $3.8 billion in 1997.
MCI said the expected decline in capital spending is from
lower long distance requirements.
About 50 percent of the capital spending will be invested
in network software, hardware and integration capabilities for
data and Internet.

Traditional voice capacity will account for less than 20
percent of the company's capital expenditures this year, the
company said.
