Jacqueline Kennedy was very beautiful, intelligent and well educated, and came from a French family, the Bouviers, who were very well placed socially in Amerca. The Kennedys were very nouveau riche, and Irish, and were shunned socially. So Jackie was a match made in heaven for Jack, and as I recall his father really pushed the marriage. Don't forget the Kennedys were driven to get one of their sons into the presidency. You could tell Jackie would be an ideal first lady!!! Jack Kennedy was very good with words, and very intelligent and charming, and a U.S. senator to boot. His family also had a lot of money, and Jackie liked a very nice lifestyle. Her own family's fortune was pretty much gone. Jackie's father was a charming rogue who cheated on her mother and was alcoholic, as well. Not a very good role model for a young girl to emulate in men. Unfortunately, developmentally speaking girls need their fathers to be emotionally healthy and give them plenty of time and approval. Jackie's father got so drunk he could not even walk her down the aisle at her wedding. It is a real credit to Jackie that she was able to rear fairly normal and healthy children in the middle of everything that happened in her life. It couldn't have been easy!!
