the issue of finding shares to short has now become more interesting. i checked around and here is what i found. due to rule 72-which essentially says that if you b/d finds shares to loan to you, they are subject to immediatde potential buy-in the discounters are not sophisticated enough , nor are they willing to spend the time or money to track these issues. that is why they are discounters. as for the b/d's-- they can go naked short at any time and if in fact their clearing agent comes and says they are issuing a buy-in notice the b/d can trade intr-house and start the clock ticking again, or begin the fail to deliver procedure.. gets pretty interesting.. ask your b/d if the rule 72 flag shows on his screen
