That will certainly eat into the Cree material being supplied currently. This is a trend you're going to see with all the big boys working diligently to pull away from dependency on Cree (or should I say Wolfspeed) material. The Asian suppliers are definitely gaining ground from the looks of it......

I think that this is the first time that they have put a numeric target on their internal supply and would likely mean that they are seeing decent progress on their goals towards commercialization.

ST is aiming for $1 billion in SiC power revs in 2025 so 40% of substrates coming from internal supply would be a fairly significant piece of the market.

More info from STM on their SiC plans.

While, the >40% internal capacity is certainly a concern, it is interesting to note that their capacity increase from 2017 to 2024 seems to be only 1/3 of Cree's plan. They stated that the move to 200mm is expected in the 2nd half of the 2020's.
