64+64 = 128 Hitachi Announces New 128Mb Memory Chips 01/29/98 Newsbytes, Thursday, January 29, 1998 at 15:08 TOKYO, JAPAN, 1998 JAN 29 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes. Hitachi Ltd. [TOKYO:6501] has announced four new 128-megabit memory chips, the industry's first such devices, according to the company. The chips include 128-megabit EDO DRAMs (dynamic random access memory) and synchronous DRAMs. The new chips are intended for use in personal computers and engineering workstations and will be available, in sample quantities, during February, said Hitachi. It manufactured the chips by molding together two 64-megabit DRAM chips together. The new chips fall into four series. Two EDO DRAM series, the HM5113805TD (x 8 bits, 4k refresh) and the HM5113165TD (x16 bits, 4k refresh), and two synchronous DRAM series, the HM 5212805TD (x 8 bits) and the HM5212165TD (x16 bits). All use stacking technology. The EDO DRAM chips have an access time of 60ns while the S-DRAM chips support a PC 66MHz memory bus. Reported By Newsbytes News Network: newsbytes.com
