Ed,
I see it more like they are testing the waters for a 128Mbit market.
It goes against the 4x progression of memory. I read in an article
(I'll try to post it, once I find it again) that the big memory
manufacturers are trying to introduce the 128Mbit because of the
difficulty in producing the 256Mbit. This way they can sell their
"not quite 256Mbit" die as a 128Mbit. HP and other OEMs are
interested in this part.

What will be interesting about this is that it will be the first time
the memory manufacturers set the product line. Much like Intel and
Microsoft telling their customers,
"You'll take what we give you and YOU WILL LIKE IT."

Maybe the first step in the global memory manufacturer consortium.
Oooo! Samsung, NEC, and Micron telling Intel what to make for a change. Ah, never happen.
