Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but to me the graph shows precisely that. Under Obama (the left edge of the graph) dems viewed the economy being much better than the repubs did. The sharp rise in repub sentiment is obviously when Trump won the election and started touting right away about it being the best economy in history (referencing the stock market). The sentiment completely flipped based on party affiliation - both sides being guilty.

After covid in early '20 the levels are basically flipped from early 2016. The big difference between then and now is main street has been decimated. The dems seem to get that whereas the repubs are obviously completely oblivious to it. Not surprising as it's a direct reflection of what their leader and his media keeps drumming into them.
