I doubt it. 72,992 shouldn't be shares in thousands. The stated average daily volume for GERN from 12-24-97 to 1-27-98 from WSJ is 865,834. That's surely above the current average volume but reasonable given the fact the stock had a volatile month.

The GERN balloon didn't pop, but instead has a slow leak.<G>
A downward trend has been established. The healthy covering of short holders over the past 2 weeks has brought the short interest down, as some diehard GERN investors have been accumulating, keeping the price from spriraling down(pop). Hopefully enough shorts have covered to the point that any short squeeze that may occur will have little effect on the current trend. The indices have been going sky high due to the perceived correction in the asian markets and as expected GERN is not participating. Expect any weakness in the markets to bring selling to GERN in short order.
