If anybody is wondering if there was a loophole when gold was confiscated (actually, under-compensated is more accurate): coins with numismatic value were exempt, plus up to 5 other ounces, plus gold for business like dentistry or art.

So if you have a few gold proofs, or old gold coins, you were OK. Ditto if you had skills, and decided to go into business making gold jewelry, like a pair of crude earrings every six months or so... -g-
