I would say that what you defined as "democracy"i Yep.. covered that in post to RB.. direct direct democracy is plebiscite é referendum .. whatever.. (oops keyboard in French mode LOL) Anyway we are in representative democracies.. republic é parliamentary .. same goal.. protection from rabble and vigilantism ..

The US being a republic rather than direct democracy OK French switched off LOL There is the rub the same folks that cite that we are a Republic stuff .. consider Canada a democracy ... we are a parliamentary system.. seats are one facet as is the EC of achieving fair representation .. will never be perfect.. and gerrymandering should be punishable by death !! as said in RB post.. we have referenda and US has propositions.. both are plebiscites and in small cases or specific case OK.. but a terribly dangerous way to run a country in general... Sadly so much of eh electorate does not understand the sysem.. one doowad at my night job going on about how Trump won without popular majority last time.. this guy actually is legally entitled to vote in Canada .. where 40-41% popular vote can give you a strong majority .. happily for both countries whatever the sticky stuff.. they were smart enough to understand DIRECT democracy is a death wish if the defacto system..
