I found the following posted on Yahoo's NN message board. It gives a different perspective on the UB situation.

Consider, for a minute, why Newbridge bought UB. First, for it's customer support staff (considered to be first class). Second, for it's LAN products. Third, for it's installed (Fortune 500) customer base.

Since they are phasing out the LAN product line in favor of using a more accepted product (alliance with 3Com), it seems that they got most of what they paid for. If they can successfully migrate the old UB LAN installed base to 3Com (with sales incentives and discounts), they have effectively succeeded and gained market share. Notice that this company was quick to pull the plug when they saw the UB product was not selling. They do not like to lose money. Hang around.
