I'm not disputing that aspect at all. It infuriates me that they always want new taxes to pay for new programs. If they think they can raise taxes, then do it to pay down the debt, not to spend more into the red.
People seem to forget that we built this country on no/low taxes. We built entire cities complete with infrastructure, a new interstate highway system all with low tax yet now we can't even maintain them because of all the corruption and waste.
National level social programs just beg for inefficiency and fraud. They are much more manageable at the local level. Neighbors know who is gaming the system and who is really deserving not some pencil pusher 2000 miles away.
Government trickle down social programs just make states justify getting more money by spend it or you don't get it next year systems. It was the same with military budgets. It's not efficient and it's wasteful. We always ran out of money where we needed it and spent extra on stuff we didn't need.
I'm not sure what the solution is. Cut federal programs and letting counties run them would just make the "haves" move away from the areas with the most need since they would require higher taxes to fulfill it. Maybe a hybrid but renovate the tax code to get rid of most of the loopholes and incentives. At the same time, make social programs more like an income and less gifts. No free phones, etc. You get X dollars and you can buy a cheap phone on a cheap plan if you can't afford a better one. I'm tired of seeing welfare queens with better phones than me for free. To get assistance, you have to do community service or intern. Not hang out on the street squirting out a kid a year not knowing who the daddy is.
