george: Is this the same guy writing this response? Appears he has calmed down abit.

First off I don't buy the argument of why the Dutch vaccine failed.
The whole cell vaccine does have all that other stuff in it that the multicomponent vaccines have. It is multicomponent. The antibody response was to the vaccine. The pertactin perhaps didn't do its part.
Bbeyond that it doesn't really matter. Whole cell is out anyway.

Other than that I would say we are in a classic argument of multicomponent vs. monocomponent. For each argument given here there is a counter argument that supports the monocomponent.
I am certainly not going to pretend to be a microbiologist and try to solve a problem that millions$$ have gone into R & D to try to solve. After all, as of now " the jury is still out".
I don't buy the statement that the reason that the vaccines work in Britian, France, etc is because they are multicomponent. I'll say because of the nature of the components they have to be multicomponent to work at an effective level. What we have to recognize here is the components even amonge the various multicomponent vaccines may carry the same name but among vendors are different. That is part of what accounts for the differences in the way they behave. That is what the Connaughts, the SKB's the Chirons and the NVX's have been doing the past many years.
I happened to be convinced that NVX's monocomponent DTaP vaccine is the wave of the future. I can say the shorts don't have a clue. In the next two months we all should have a better handle on it. We'll see. :-}
