People seem to be unable to gain economic ascendancy without getting hubris and becoming overlords of the benighted hordes elsewhere. The British Empire was pretty good compared with the Mongol horde horrors, the Japanese expansion into China and a lot more besides, the normal cannibal Maori tribal genocides, the Islamic jihad convert or die by the sword conquests from the Atlantic out into the Pacific ocean and from south of the Sahara up into France and Austria and Russia and across into China. But even the beloved British Enlightenment was not always genteel and fully appreciated by the local yokels. Now there's an interface between China, Taiwanese, Hong Kong British common law aficionados, not to mention sundry islands up and down the coast. Unfortunately, Made in China hubris is getting out of hand and they wish to conquer Taiwan, which was never part of China. While Hong Kong was leased, with or without duress which challenges the premise of the lease, the subsequent population changes, economic developments and whatnot make the lease academic and perhaps not worth the paper it was presumably written on. Especially since the lease was issued by owners of China who were defeated by subsequent owners who did not gain possession by other than the barrel of a gun and generalized murder. A good solution is for Taiwan to become an official country owned by the people of Taiwan and Hong Kong to become an official country which could be very much like Singapore. Then everyone could be happy and the 21st century continue happily to the 22nd without unpleasant evil-doers like the Mainland Maniacs and John Bolton getting their jollies. A referendum of Taiwanese and Kong Kongers could determine whether the theory would have great support. Quebec, Scotland, Great Britain have all had such polls. Quebec and Scotland voted to stay. Brexit was leave. So now England might have to secede from Scotland which would likely become a chattel state of the German/France axis. Mqurice
