BellSouth Files Lawsuit Against AirTouch Paging Company Indicates That Money Is Owed Under State Tariffs January 30, 1998 04:29 PM ATLANTA, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth BLS has filed a lawsuit against AirTouch Paging to collect money owed for AirTouch's use of BellSouth's transmission facilities. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia calls for AirTouch to pay approximately $600,000 owed to BellSouth for the use of its facilities since the fall of 1996. BellSouth provides AirTouch ATI and other paging companies with dedicated lines that route calls from customers who are using the phone network to page customers of these companies. BellSouth's transmission facilities connect the calls to the paging companies equipment activating the paging signal to the user of the pager. AirTouch has refused payment to BellSouth for use of these facilities for over a year, citing regulatory rulings that they interpret give them the right not to pay, but ignoring tariffs approved by state regulatory bodies, including the Georgia Public Service Commission. The company indicated it was unclear at this time what type of hearing schedule would be set for the complaint. BellSouth Corporation is a $20 billion communications services company.
