That's called stuffing the channel and applies to distributors. Conservative companies only record sales when shipped by the distributor to the end-user, not when shipped to the distributor. In fairness, sometimes companies over estimate end-user demand so that the "stuffing" is not intentional or used specifically to shore up a quarter. The thing is, this will always come back and bite the company eventually.
