To ALL:
enough of who is number 1! Profit is key gang. Who is the elder of the two? cisco.... the challenge in marketing burden is on them to keep pace. Gary (not Korn) made mention of marketing not simply products and correct he is.... but all in all customers, repeat,,, customers buy the PRODUCTS not the marketing. There is room for many in a growing segment and profit rules. I have heard many times on the thread about falling on the knife and if your compettitors spend their time talking about you instead of their products half the battle is won. CSCO still running , but it is a marathon not a sprint.. Betting on both.

Folks, I just did a little excersise with the charts here on SI. I plotted Cisco and Ascend next to one another. If you build a chart at anything greater than 30 months it'll show Ascend - even at these levels - has accrued in value faster than Cisco. According to this ASND is overvalued...at 30 relative to CISCO. Since ASND still shows a net loss on the books it's difficult to compare other data such as PE. Any thoughts on this?

Hi Gary (not Mr. Korn):

RE: Your IDC data post

Thank you very much for the information and analysis you provided on the above and I have read them carefully.

I do have one important question :

ASND/CSCC merger was completed SHORTLY before mid-year 1997.
The market shares reported by IDC measured the first half year of
1997 only. Can we reasonably assume that market shares have impacted MATERIALLY post merger.

As we all have learned that CSCC products are on the move(more
so than the ASND side for the current periods.)

p.s. I went thru posts very fast for the last 15 minutes and hope
that I did not miss anything relevant for the above.)

Regards, Jan
