Each company does it a little different. Most of the core will go for the bulk sample but most companies will also keep a little back in case they want to do other tests on it. The reason being it costs alot to drill a hole, if you send it all away to get tested and at a latter date someone wanted a few pounds for additional geochem, microscopic work etc you wouldnt have any sample left. So usually a few pounds will be kept from each phase of the core or at specific intervales just in case.
