Sorry Wharfie, I guess I should have pointed out that, for six months after 9/11/2001, the Democrats were united behind George W. Bush in the war on terrorism.

I still remember when that unity was broken. Hillary was out there on the Senate floor holding up a newspaper headline saying, "BUSH KNEW [about 9/11]." And with a straight face, she asked disingenuously, "My constituents want to know."

It was the most blatant, cowardly example of partisan politics that I've seen at the time.

Unfortunately for the machiavellian Democrats, the GOP still had control over Congress until 2006. Then the Democrats came in and made it their goal to obstruct Bush and get the White House back.

And they were hugely successful. They helped usher in the Great Recession, and Barack Obama easily won in 2008.
