I want Cabletron to survive! If that means that they must be acquired by a telephony company such as Nortel so be it. I feel that Cabletron's products are world class and by integrating with a world class telephony equipment supplier like Nortel they will have a chance.

Don't get me wrong, Cabletron is still a very strong company in the LAN/WAN arena. But I see a major acceleration in mergers and acquisitions in 1998. Unfortunately, there are companies out there who could acquire Cabletron that wouldn't be in Cabletron's best interest.

IMHO,

Steve
