My 4'X4'Michelin map of the Sudan says Wau is 225mi by road or 200 by river to Bentiu. These SPLA rebels probably came out of Ziare 150mi to the south of Wau. Ziare was probably tired of feeding them and well, knowing Christian solders, Wau had food, a warm place to sleep and women to brutalize and some fuel for the trip back to Ziare. Jolly good fun don't you think? What is the SPLA? They are 10 to 30 year olds sick from AIDS ,malaria ,parasite infection etc.who have no family and no other sorce of food for existance. The movement is a method of survival for them. In order for this missionary supported group of infectious rebels to move further it would require more food, gasoline, and armament than the area could supply. Chinese land mines are a dime a dozen. And with the limited amount of useable roads in the area they will all die trying to get anywhere near the oil fields. The reality of war. It always amazes me who people in power use to do their dirty work.
