I have some funny anecdotes about my Dad trying to run
Peachtree Business software on his IBM PC/XT.

He had no idea about subdirectories, so whenever he loaded
more than 1 module (AP, AR, Ledger, Payroll) Peachtree menus and
subroutines would overwrite themselves, driving my Dad nuts.
He would say, I started out in AP, but somehow ended up in Payroll. LOL.

He was loading everything in the root directory.
