I would never have guessed that the 'basis step up' thing played any part at all in a company's decision on disposition of earnings - how much to retain and how much to pay out.

The Estate Tax (aka death tax) is going to be hard to leave monies to next generation and or grandkids. I suspect a lot of tax planner working on ways to do this in another way (generation Trusts, gifts).

Ha, maybe no need to fund grandkid's college now w/ the proposal to pay off student loans past, present and future.

There is still a lot of uncertainty so hard to plan accordingly.
