The right wing votes on culture and tribe. God, guns, and hating gays.

It has been that way for a long time, but the 1964 civil rights act put it in steroids with the Lee Atwood "Southern Strategy" based on appealing to Southern racism.

And it worked to lock up the South for the Republicans for the last 50 years.

And if one takes the time to review Southern senators over the last 50 years they will see most are like Mcconnel, Graham, Perdue and Loeffler. Barbarians.

The South has preferred for 50 years, by and large, idiots and criminals and racists.

And those southern politicians have fucked over the south big time, like busting unions, which is why the south is so poor and their social safety nets so weak and they are at the bottom educationally.

<mind of a republican voter>

There are on the one hand, the pandering pseudo-religious rich that want to co-opt the system for their collective benefit and there are the religious zealots, many whom are poor. If one is truly a centrist - they simply can't be part of this party as it has been sold - it is like Jonestown at this point where there is a cultish devotion to a single person now. All the old centrist ideals and traditional viewpoints have been eroded. In days past - I could have had Republican friends. I don't see how that is possible in today's world. It isn't just about intolerance and racism but other possibly more fundamental things - like treason, criminality, cronyism and nepotism.

From some older papers, but I think it is still true

Results We find that unified party control at the state level has minimal impact on income going to the top 1 percent of income earners within the states, but that unified party control at the federal level does have an effect. Moreover, we find that over the long term, unified Democratic control at the federal level leads to less income going to the top 1 percent, while unified Republican control increases income going to top earners.
