Another factor that may make AsiaSat a likely L-Star1 buyer is that AsiaSat 2, which carries their only Ku-band transponders, has had power problems in the Ku tranpsonders. This limits their marketability. I have also seen talk of a merger of AsiaSat and APT Satellite(NYSE:SAT and ATS), both Hong Kong based sat companies that have had launch failures in the last few years. The combination would be quite powerful.
